CIS 300: Introduction to Computer Game Design

Communications Lab 2
Game Ideas and Initial Proposal

Due: Sunday, February 3 at 11:59pm

The focus of today's lab is to come up with a single game idea that your group can agree on. While you are not yet committed to this idea, hopefully your group is centering on something final.

During the communication lab, work with your group and the course staff to come up with a game idea that makes sense for your team and for this class. Keep in mind the talents of your group, the requirements for the course, and the time frame for the semester. Do not sacrifice originality! The first few chapters of R&A should be helpful.

Once you have done this, your group should create a document detailing your current game idea. The document should contain the following:

  1. A 2-3 sentence description of your game. It should be high-level and get across immediately what the game is about.
  2. A 2-4 paragraph description of your game. Communicate what the game will be like to play, and what makes it interesting.
  3. List 3 possible ways in which the game may not seem original. Describe strategies for addressing these problems in 1-2 sentences each.
  4. List the 3 biggest challenges to completing your game idea. Describe strategies for addressing these challenges in 1-2 sentences each.

Submit this file as proposal.txt to CMS. It should be submitted by Saturday, January 26th at 11:59pm. You only need to submit this file once for the entire group.
