CIS 300: Introduction to Computer Game Design

Assignment 8
Alpha Complete

Due: Wednesday, April 2nd in class

Your third presentation is your alpha presentation. Naively, alpha should be your game without any content. The character controls should be complete. You should be able to demonstrate a small level that shows off things like adversaries or obstacles. Hopefully the demonstration has a definable goal that shows how the character would win the game. With that said, the level can be very simple and does not need to take up more than one screen.

The demonstrations for alpha are slightly more involved than the previous demonstrations. Alpha demonstrations take a full ten minutes, and I would like a formal demonstration with slides (PowerPoint or equivalent). These slides should have a formal title and an overview about what you plan to talk about. The structure about the actual talk is up to you. However, I am looking for the following things in your presentation:

  • What is the current audience of your game. You made a early proposal about your game, but how has it changed (if at all).
  • A demonstration of your game so far that backs up the claims that you make about your audience.
  • What were the most difficult features in implementing alpha? Did you have to make any compromises or cut anything out?
  • What are your plans for the beta demonstration in two weeks?

Eventually, we will want a copy of the slides from your presentation. However, we will make this part of the third two week report. Hence, as usual, this report will constitute your written portion of this assignment.
