CIS 300: Introduction to Computer Game Design

Assignment 4
Gameplay Prototype

Due: Thursday, February 28th in class

Your first presentation is your game play prototype. Prototypes should be demonstrated in section. You should come to class with your prototype and prepare a 5 minute demonstration of what your prototype does. You should also be prepared to handle questions from the audience --- either the instructors or other students.

Remember the purpose of the game play prototype. It is meant to be a "throw away" prototype. It is not necessarily going to be part of your final project. Instead it should clearly show off one game play element. The best type of thing that you could do is have a character on the screen and show how you control him in the game. There is no need for adversaries or challenges. It is okay if your prototype is simply a "toy" and not a game, provided that you show off interesting character control.

While not required, a particularly useful feature would be for your prototype to have features that can be adjusted in real time without recompilation. Remember the prototype that was shown in class with the slider bars. While you do not need fancy slider bars (special keystrokes would also do just fine), having adjustable parameters will allow you to show off your game play.

There is nothing to turn in for this assignment. However, you should remember to turn in your first two week report. This report will constitute your written portion of this assignment.
