CIS Alumni Connections
Welcome to Version 1.0 of Computing and Information Science (CIS) at Cornell University ALUMNI PAGE! There is no better time to stay engaged or get reconnected with CIS.
My name is Justine Schaffner and I have recently been appointed to serve as the CIS director of alumni development and corporate relations! It is my pleasure to keep you up to date on all of the advances and exciting news coming out of CIS. I am also here to help you connect with faculty and other alumni from around the world, regardless of their field of study at Cornell. One of the greatest assets as a Cornell University graduate is the opportunity to re-connect or engage with 240,000 alumni around the world. Not only is Cornell University ranked as the “Hottest Ivy,” it also has one of the largest alumni populations!
A link to this newly created webpage will be sent to you four times a year. However, additions and new content will be added on a monthly basis. The content of this site was created in response to alumni requests to provide periodic, timely, and relevant news regarding the latest advances in research, faculty awards & accolades, student initiatives, CIS campus-specific lectures/visits, and alumni success stories. A very special addition to your CIS alumni page is the ability to download podcasts featuring our extremely accomplished faculty and uber-successful alumni.
I recognize that you have an abundance of information coming your way on a daily basis, which is why your CIS alumni webpage will provide quick briefs and hyperlinks should you want to seek out more information on any given article or topic of interest.
Here is a preview of what to you can expect to see and hear in the coming months…
REGGIE FILS-AIME CALS '83
President/COO, Nintendo of America, Inc. – speaks on campus to 300 plus students and faculty
about the development and marketing of the gaming industry’s top gaming console – the
revolutionary Wii. Have a peek at some student Q&A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Baz59yjLjSY
BOB’S BYTES:
This section of our alumni page provides Dean Constable the opportunity to share his thoughts with
our CIS alumni. We invite you to read and learn about topics of interest to the dean and how his
leadership within the Faculty of Computing and Information Science is positioning CIS for continued
success.
ALUMNI ACCENT:
Fortunately for CIS alumni, this section will be abundant and plentiful. Learn about what other
Cornellians are doing, what companies they have chosen to join, what interesting projects they are
invested in, reconnect, or simply reach out.
PODCAST PLAY:
What would an alumni page be without the availability of podcast plays? Starting in February 2008,
your alumni page will host podcasts from Cornell alumni who are leaders in the technology world, as
well as from the Cornell CIS faculty who are helping shape the world of tomorrow.
Between these technology titans and our outstanding decorated faculty, you will have the advantage
of going back to class without having to prep or sweat through a final exam.
FACULTY FOCUS:
Where would any of us be without our favorite professor imparting their knowledge to us or guiding
us into the future? If you are interested in knowing what our faculty is working on, what advances
are materializing into mainstream technology before the public is aware, or if you just want to learn
from a faculty member you did not have the opportunity to study with while at Cornell, take a minute
to sneak a peek.
CONNECTING WITH CORNELL:
This section of our CIS alumni page will be dedicated to helping alumni navigate through all areas
that reside “far above Cayuga’s waters.” If you are seeking the opportunity to hire the best and
brightest within CIS, connect to new initiatives at Cornell such as Entrepreneurship at Cornell,
or just simply need to know who to chat with within CIS, this is the place for you.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this site, please send me an email at js536@cornell.edu.

Your gift helps Cornell advance its mission of teaching, research, and public service, and prepares our students to become tomorrow's leaders. Gifts to Cornell are tax-deductible to the full extent of the Internal Revenue Code.
