.wav to .gxs converter (5/1/2007)

You can the coverter here. The converter will replace all .wav files, recursively through your directory structure, with .gxs files (so don’t run it anywhere except where your game’s sounds are). If GameX tries to load a .wav and can’t find it, it should try to load the appropriate .gxs instead. The .gxs format is readable by GameX only.

Fall courses (4/9/2007)

Looking for interesting fall courses to enroll in?

STUDIO in SPACE and TIME is an art studio course using computer-based and traditional media to create works engaging the themes of space and time. The course combines lecture, readings, studio (lab), and individual research, and draws on ideas of space and time from widely differing sources. Students work independently as well as collaboratively to explore specific areas of interest within these two broad themes. While the course emphasizes the use of new media technologies, it will draw upon media practices from both "hi" and "low" tech sources, encouraging playful thinking and the freedom to move "outside the box." The course was developed with the support of the Faculty Innovation in Teaching Program, and combines resources from the Cornell Theory Center, the Department of Art, and CIT. The course makes use of cutting edge immersive environments supported by the Theory Center, and the Art Department's and CIT's advanced media labs in Tjaden Hall. All content and the final projects are presented in online multi-user virtual worlds that are presented to the public at the end of the semester.

Programmers: Check out the C++ Help page (1/26/2007)

There's some good stuff on that page if you're new to C++, or even if you're not. The staff is currently coordinating when we can do a C++ "boot camp", as several students have expressed interest.

Also, that page has a few tips on how to get GameX working on your personal machine.

Welcome to a new semester! (1/21/2007)

There are still spots available in the class, so if you're not yet registered, or know someone who might be interested and has the appropriate background in writing, music, art, or programming, you/they should come to class and check it out.

The textbook, Fundamentals of Game Design by Andrew Rollings and Ernest Adams, should be available at the campus store. If you want to get a jump on reading, the first reading assignment, due Wednesday, is Chapters 1 & 2.
